The City of Toronto is building new, affordable homes at 7-9 Wardlaw Cres. in Etobicoke.

The project, located in the Islington/Albion area of Etobicoke North, will house a four-storey building and provide 51 affordable homes with supports to maintain people’s housing stability and improve their health and well-being. The homes will be private apartments with a bathroom and a kitchenette. The building will also include amenities such as shared laundry, a commercial kitchen, and programming spaces for tenants.

The inclusion of mass timber provides a higher degree of sustainability and a more rapid installation timeframe, as well as providing a greater aesthetic quality with Cross Laminated Timber (CLT). Materials have been chosen for durability, affordability and residential character.

Care has been taken to ensure the design reflects and responds to its surrounding residential context. The team has been able to optimize the site to provide a building massing with the lightest impact on neighbours, while maintaining the required number of units.
