Branksome Hall is a private school for girls located in downtown Toronto, Ontario, at the intersection of Mt. Pleasant Road and Elm Street. In 2002 Branksome created a master plan which called for revitalization of its facilities over a period of years to better meet the needs of its students.

An important part of the revitalization plan is the Athletic and Wellness Centre (AWC). The program of requirements calls for some magnificent spaces to respond to the school’s academic, athletic and social programs. The 75,000 sq.ft. facility includes the following components:

  • An indoor 25-metre pool and a separate indoor leisure pool
  • A double gymnasium with an indoor running track above
  • Multipurpose rooms for lectures, drama, club activities and teaching
  • A yoga/dance studio
  • A contemporary kitchen with state of the art services equipment and cafeteria to accommodate over 650 students
  • Change rooms and support facilities

The project is designed to a LEED Silver standard. Sustainable features are incorporated into many aspects of the design, with emphasis on views to the Rosedale Valley and maximizing natural daylight into interior spaces.

The project also included renovations to the existing facilities during the summer months.
