Renovation of the Bombardier Airplane Hanger Bay 12 Administration Offices and originally called de Havilland Airfield in 1929, is now home to the 2-story Northcrest Experience Centre & Offices. The 1st Floor incorporates 750 SM Downsview Administration Offices, with the main Lobby Entrance for the visitors to gain access to the Experience Center, complete with a art displaying a history walk up the Feature Stairs. The 2nd Floor features 562 SM open area full of interactive exhibits to inform visitors about the future 370-acre development. The second floor includes a 200 SM Community Hall for informative presentations and board meetings for local non-profit organizations. Challenging design to incorporate the Glass Railed Feature Stairs, the Structural Design incorporated foundation and structural steel frame system, complete with elevated concrete deck that required selectively removing a portion of the hanger interior existing components to provide and secure the frame. Then, the hanger separation wall was complex drywall assemblies which also required rerouting existing electrical and mechanical elements. The 2nd Floor Exhibit area design incorporated a Concrete Polished Floor. The polishing blended old and new which made for a very industrial look representing the history of the building.
