Infrastructure Ontario appointed Gillam as the general contractor to complete a challenging interior renovation within a live courthouse facility at 361 University Avenue, Toronto. The project entailed extensive asbestos abatement and the installation of a customized wire mold system throughout the facility. The purpose of the work was to equip the courtrooms with modern technology to facilitate audio visual media during courtroom proceedings. Key challenges included coordination of the work around courthouse activities, ensuring continual compliance with the courthouse’s strict security protocols, coordinating a very large team of stakeholders, coordinating the work of other contractors outside of Gillam’s contract, complying with Heritage Preservation Services requirements, maintaining just-in-time deliveries, and working to a fast-track schedule. Gillam Group completed the work in a collaborative way with much of the work performed outside normal working hours. The project was completed successfully on time and on budget.
